Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson is suing Texas-based AutoAssure, alleging they sold costly and often unnecessary car warranties to nearly a thousand Minnesotans. Swanson says the company told a 59-year-old Cambridge woman her car was out of factory warranty and sold her a contract for nearly 38-hundred dollars, when she still had another 18 months and 45-thousand miles on a service contract. Swanson says AutoAssure told people the contracts were an extension of the manufacturer warranty but were actually a new policy with many exclusions on what was covered.
