MN A-G sues Michigan company for deceptive fundraising practices

May 25, 2016 By Scott Peterson

LoriSwanson3

Minnesota’s attorney general is suing a Michigan fundraising company alleging they misled the public about donations to a veterans charity organization.

A-G Lori Swanson says “about 28,000 Minnesotans donated over $925,000 to the Foundation for American Veterans since 2011. We also know that more than 35,000 Minnesotans asked the company…sued today to put them on the do-not-call list.” Swanson says Associated Community Services (ACS) falsely told people they had pledged to donate to help out veterans, when they had not. Many of the people who received the fake pledge reminders were senior citizens.

ACS has not commented on the lawsuit.
