Leaders of the Republican Party of Minnesota have issued a strong statement against a Republican who’s challenging the party’s endorsed candidate in the high-profile race for Minnesota attorney general. Former state Representative Doug Wardlow, who did not receive the G-O-P endorsement at the state convention in Rochester, has filed papers to run against endorsed candidate Jim Schultz in the August primary. Wardlow says he’s received “hundreds of messages from supporters urging me forward.” Minnesota G-O-P Chairman David Hann says Wardlow “broke his promise to abide by the endorsement and has instead proven himself to be a shameless politician motivated only by his personal ambitions.” Hann says Jim Schultz is the only candidate able to defeat incumbent Democrat Keith Ellison in November, and the Minnesota Republican Party is “fully united” behind Schultz.
