MN Health Department finds more evidence on possible cause of severe lung injuries from vaping

November 26, 2019 By Bill Werner

The state Health Department has found further evidence that vitamin E acetate in illicit T-H-C could be causing the outbreak of severe lung injuries from vaping. State Epidemiologist Doctor Ruth Lynfield says vaping products obtained by law enforcement from 2018 did *not* contain vitamin E acetate — while samples from 2019 did. But Lynfield cautions, “These are small samples. Also, additional work needs to be done to evaluate the mechanism of injury, in other words, to look at causality.”

Vitamin E acetate is used to dilute THC in black-market vape cartridges. State health officials continue urging people to avoid vaping illicit T-H-C products — and those who develop symptoms should promptly seek medical care.
