The Minnesota House Tuesday unanimously passed a bill that backers say will standardize procedures for handling evidence that medical professionals gather from sexual assault victims — what are termed “examination kits”. Brooklyn Center Democrat Debra Hilstrom supports the measure. She says, “There’s a three-year statute of limitations and we want to have the opportunity to test those kits in the event they [victims] want those kits to be tested.” Hilstrom says the bill also gives victims information about whether their examination kits have been tested.
