Two D-F-L lawmakers say Minnesota Republican Party leaders are impeding the democratic process by allowing only President Trump on the ballot for the state’s presidential primary next March — and say they’ll change the law to give other candidates access. Representative Jamie Long says about state G-O-P Chair Jennifer Carnahan, “She may be right that it’s her job to deliver the votes for President Trump, but that probably means that she shouldn’t then be the one who’s in charge of deciding who gets on their ballot.”
Carnahan responds President Trump’s Republican challengers “can not be considered to be running national campaigns.” She warns Democrats changing the law would jeopardize the seating of Minnesota delegates at next year’s Republican National Convention.
