What’s called “wage theft” by employers is the target of a bill being debated this afternoon in a Minnesota House committee. Democratic Majority Leader Ryan Winkler says most employers do the right thing, but a few don’t follow overtime rules, or misclassify someone as an independent contractor and deny them employee benefits. “We have a significant problem for Minnesota workers,” he says, “and we want to make sure that the agency that is responsible for policing wage theft issues has the resources it needs to do its job.”
House Democrats say combating “wage theft” is one of their top priorities for the 2019 legislative session.
