Legislation clarifying Minnesota’s new agriculture buffers law is headed to Governor Mark Dayton’s desk after the Minnesota House passed it on a strong vote (105-24) this morning. Mazeppa (muh-ZEP-uh) Republican Steve Drazkowski objects to the whole concept, saying “when you take away the ability for people to use their land in the way that they have used it, you are taking a portion of that land.” Northfield Democrat David Bly disagrees. He says, “When water, our perhaps most important resource in the state, is threatened… we need to take steps to protect that.” The law requires buffer strips on certain lands to control runoff into Minnesota streams and lakes.
