Bottle rockets, firecrackers and other aerial fireworks would be legal in Minnesota under a controversial bill the Minnesota House passed Monday afternoon on a vote of 73-to-56. Sponsor, Pine City Republican Jason Rarick, argues fireworks are here in Minnesota and people are using them — they’re just buying their fireworks in Wisconsin, North Dakota or South Dakota. But Brooklyn Center Democrat Debra Hilstrom warns “with the increased use of fireworks, you also see increased harm, increased hospital visits, as well as increased damage.” Governor Mark Dayton vetoed a similar bill in 2012 and said earlier he opposes this one.
