Rep. Tim Sanders (R-Blaine)
A bill that would specifically authorize “fantasy sports” in Minnesota passed the state House Monday evening on a strong vote of 100-to-20. Current law doesn’t address the issue of fantasy sports and some worried gambling laws might be used to impose penalties on fantasy sports participants. Blaine Republican Tim Sanders says almost a million Minnesotans enjoy the community, the bragging rights, and the opportunity to compete over fantasy sports games. House Democratic Leader Paul Thissen (TEE-sen) complained Republicans with a month-and-a-half remaining in the sesssion are worrying about fantasy sports and fireworks, instead of dealing with transportation and the state budget.
