The state House on a strong vote has passed a bill to line up Minnesota’s tax code with federal changes — although Democrats object it doesn’t have enough tax relief for working families. House Minority Leader Melissa Hortman says President Trump’s tax bill benefited corporations and the wealthy and “we should repair that damage. We should be making taxes more fair for Minnesotans. Instead, Minnesotans’ Republicans are choosing to give corporations even more money.” House Republican Majority Leader Joyce Peppin responds House Republicans’ bill simplifies the tax code and “the most important thing… we actually provide tax relief to 2.1 million Minnesotans.”
Representative Paul Marquart says he’s encouraged. The Dilworth Democrat says,”While there’s yet differences [and] things for improvement, I think in the long term we’re gonna get there and get that bill, but we just need to do one thing, and that is to also create a victory for our working families and our senior citizens.”
