We’ll find out this morning (8am) if Minnesota House and Senate leaders have an agreement on a bill to continue fixing the state’s problem-ridden vehicle registration system — and if it’s a measure Governor Mark Dayton will sign. The big sticking point has been House Republicans’ demand that the governor find the 10 million dollars he’s requested by trimming budgets of state agencies. Dayton reiterated Tuesday he will not “cannibalize” state government. “I’ll veto that measure if it’s in the bill, I’ll veto the bill, and then we’ll be done,” he said.
The bill the Senate passed provides separate funding, with top lawmakers checking every three months on what progress has been made on fixing MN-LARS — and they can withhold the money if they’re not satisfied.
