The Minnesota House and Senate disagree over how to temporarily ease a requirement that school districts make up “snow days” later in the school year — and lawmakers now must hammer out a compromise. The House bill “forgives” school districts a maximum of three days for January’s polar vortex. The Senate bill is open-ended on number of days — but Rochester Republican Carla Nelson argues no school board will choose to artificially shorten its classroom calendar. “There is no school district that does not want to have its kids in school every day is feasibly and safely possible,” she says.
Nelson is hoping for quick agreement so a bill can go to Governor Tim Walz.
