MN House speaker denies using position to erase credit card debt

MN House Speaker Kurt Daudt (R-Crown)

House Speaker Kurt Daudt disputes some Democrats’ allegation that he may have used his position at the legislature to cut a deal when he was sued for credit card debt three times over the past year. Daudt says lobbyists at the Capitol had “zero” role in erasing his debt and adds, “I know that I received no special treatment, because I paid every dollar fully. I paid the entire debt in full to that debt collector.”  Daudt also paid a property tax bill late and was assessed a penalty. He says it was an oversight and notes that on three other parcels of land, he overpaid his property taxes by more than a thousand dollars.
