Speaker Melissa Hortman is noncommittal on whether the Minnesota House will vote for a gas tax increase that Governor Tim Walz is pushing. “We will definitely be having a long and extensive debate about transportation funding and what the most appropriate sources are,” she says. But when asked whether the House D-F-L Caucus supports a gas tax increase, Hortman would only say, “We are certain that we will get a bill with that in it from the governor and we will introduce that bill. We will definitely debate and discuss that [and] see if it has the support to pass.”
Republicans, who control the Minnesota Senate, strongly oppose a gas tax increase.
