The Minnesota House has unanimously passed a bill that would set up a task force to find out why there’s an epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women in Minnesota. Sponsor, New Brighton Democrat Mary Kunesh-Podein says, “It is estimated that thousands of Native women have disappeared or been killed. We owe it to our Native community, we owe it to this nation to recognize and address this historic trauma.”
The goal of the task force would be to better understand causes of violence against Native women so it can be reduced and prevented. At this point the bill has not had a vote in the Minnesota Senate.
