Leaders of Minnesota’s Islamic community are condemning “in the strongest possible terms” the attack that left dozens dead at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Jaylani Hussein with the Minnesota chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations says some will try to use the tragedy to scapegoat an entire community “on the actions of one individual who does not follow any of the tenets of our faith.” Hussein says, “We fear that there may be backlash, but… the LGBTQ community historically has stood with marginalized Americans, including the American Muslim community, against some of this intolerance, including Islamophobia.”
