Minnesota lawmakers finished the state budget and ended a one-day special session just before 7 am Saturday, the deadline imposed by Governor Tim Walz and legislative leaders. “This was a fantastic session, said Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman. She touts a number of achievements, most notably the extension of the medical provider tax to help low-income Minnesotans with health coverage.
There’s a different view from House Republican Minority Leader Kurt Daudt who says, “This session was a failure.” Daudt says all the major budget decisions were made by top leaders with many other lawmakers left out.
