MN “March for Our Lives” will converge on State Capitol

March 24, 2018 By Bill Werner

Students and families converge on the State Capitol this morning (930am start) as part of the worldwide “March for Our Lives” to end gun violence. Governor Mark Dayton says univeral background checks and increasing the age for buying assault weapons “have the support of [an] overwhelming majority of Minnesotans and for them not even to get a hearing is really unconscionable.”  Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt responds he doesn’t want to do something that people think will solve the problem but actually won’t.  He says, “There were a lot of red flags that should have been caught in the Florida instance, I want to make sure that somebody like that in Minnesota doesn’t fall through the cracks.”  Daudt says Republicans’ focus is on keeping guns out of the hands of people with mental health issues.
