Sophia Baechler
Carbon monoxide detectors would be required on boats over a certain size in Minnesota, under legislation the Minnesota Senate unanimously approved today. The proposed law is named for eight-year-old Sophia Baechler (BECK-ler), and family members were present as the Senate voted. Bill sponsor, Edina Democrat Melisa Franzen, thanked the family for making their story Minnesotans’ story. Sophia died of carbon monoxide poisoning last fall while on her family’s boat on Lake Minnetonka.
