Heartwrenching testimony from an Edina mother whose seven-year-old daughter died from carbon monoxide poisoning on the family boat — that as a state Senate committee approved a bill today requiring C-O detectors on all vessels 16-feet and longer with enclosed cabins. Doctor Courtney Baechler wept as she told lawmakers, “For a 20-dollar carbon monoxide detector, my beautiful girl would be here. Instead, I wake up every day with the nightmare that this is now my reality that she’s gone.” Baechler implored lawmakers to never let another tragedy like it happen again. The bill is named after her daughter Sophia, who died after an outing on Lake Minnetonka last October.
