The Minnesota Senate is debating a 10-million-dollar funding package to continue fixing the state’s troubled vehicle registration system — but lawmakers would review progress every three months and could withhold funding if benchmarks are not met. Democrat Scott Dibble objects that state agencies couldn’t hire additional customer service personnel. Dibble says it’s “prudent and advisable to allow the agency to do the responsible thing, to throw a few more folks on the phones so that they can respond.” Republican Scott Newman responds there are currently 40 people to answer phones: “I don’t see it being of a benefit to hiring more people to answer the telephone, to explain to people why the MNLARS service isn’t working properly.”
