It’s expected Minnesota Senate Democrats will make a proposal today to try to break the deadlock at the state legislature over new funding for roads and bridges in Minnesota. House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt says, “We look forward to seeing an offer from them that doesn’t include a gas tax…. We’re kind of still trying to get back to where we were in November, when the governor said that a gas tax was dead.” Republicans and Democrats have also been wrangling about whether to borrow money through the bonding bill for transportation projects. Republicans also want to take money from the General Fund for roads and bridges, which Democrats warn will hurt education and other important areas of the state budget.
