MN Senate GOP unable to scale-back Dems’ $1.5 billion bonding bill

Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen (R-Alexandria)

Senate Republicans were unable to scale back Democrats’ 1.5-billion-dollar bonding bill during debate on the Senate floor this afternoon (Thurs). Alexandria Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen called Republicans’ one-billion-dollar plan “a great compromise. This is the Republicans stepping up — not stepping in front of, but stepping up — and compromising and getting it done.”  But Plummer Democrat Leroy Stumpf responds Minnesota has grown since the days of one-billion-dollar bonding bills.  “It doesn’t take much creative thinking that, if you add two million people to the state, that services are gonna be needed in a little higher level.”  Republicans say Democrats’ bill will probably not move forward at the legislature.
