It’s expected Republicans in the Minnesota Senate this week will roll out their proposal to cut taxes and line up Minnesota’s tax code with recent federal changes. As lawmakers left for the weekend, Senate Democratic Minority Leader Tom Bakk asked for “a little bit more sunlight” in the remaining time of the legislative session. “As we move forward in the final three-and-a-half weeks,… let’s kinda bring as many people to the table as we can…. Our state will be better for that,” Bakk says.
House Republicans unveiled their tax cut bill a couple weeks ago which they say focuses on middle class Minnesotans. The Dayton administration warns it benefits wealthy families and businesses more than working Minnesota families. Republicans respond the governor’s proposal to continue a tax on medical providers will hit low- and middle-income Minnesotans hardest. Democrats respond it funds MinnesotaCare which makes health care more affordable for hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans.
