MN Senate panel examines ways to control health care costs

Do doctors order too many tests because they’re worried about lawsuits, and do H-M-O primary care networks really reduce health care costs? Those are among the questions a state Senate special committee examines this afternoon (1pm). Chair, Chaska Republican Scott Jensen says after a half-dozen meetings, the next step for lawmakers is to work on recommendations: “What they think we should try to address in the immediate short-term, and then perhaps the mid term, and then long-term.”

It’s expected the select committee will issue its recommendations on controlling health care costs early in the 2018 legislative session, which begins in late February.
