Senate Republicans have filed formal requests for letters and e-mails exchanged by state Human Services Department officials. They’re trying to find out what caused a top management shakeup and delayed an investigation into allegations of a cover-up of fraud in the Child Care Assistance Program. Ham Lake Senator Michelle Benson indicates Republicans will take necessary steps to get answers, including subpoenas if needed. Benson says, “I’d just as soon start with conversations, data practices requests [and] hearings, in the hopes that everyone will work in the best interest of the public and give us the information without a subpoena — but it is not off the table.”
State Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans said Thursday the Walz administration will get the requested documents to Benson “just as soon as we can.”
