The Minnesota Senate Thursday night on a technicality rejected a measure that would temporarily restrict someone’s access to guns if a judge ruled the person is a danger to themselves or others. Maple Grove Republican Warren Limmer said it wasn’t germane to a larger bill. “There’s no reference to protection orders in this bill. There’s no reference to domestic abuse, no-contact order, or harassment restraining order at all,” he said. Saint Louis Park Democrat Ron Latz responded there are other suicide-prevention measures in the bill and his “red flag” proposal will “prevent a lot more suicides than a grant to help teach teachers how to recognize a student that may have some suicidal tendencies.”
