State Capitol is under renovation as lawmakers finish 2016 session
Minnesota Senate Democrats bring their 1.5-billion dollar bonding bill for state construction projects up for a vote today (10am). Majority Leader Tom Bakk says it will pass but they need Republicans’ help to do it. *House* Republicans meanwhile haven’t released details of their bonding bill yet with just over two weeks left in the session. Speaker Kurt Daudt says transportation funding and tax cuts must come first. “We have 900 million dollars of surplus money…. Our priority for that is to fund roads and bridges, number one, and number two, with the money that we have left over, use that for tax relief. Give it back to Minnesotans,” Daudt says. House Democratic Minority Leader Paul Thissen responds Republicans are “basically holding the bonding bill hostage to get their tax bill passed which, as everybody knows, largely includes tax cuts for big corporations.”
