Minnesota state troopers, without knowing it at first, saved the life of a co-worker May 18th when they relayed blood for an emergency transfusion from Saint Paul to Red Wing in under an hour. Lisa Jaeger, a State Patrol fleet manager, suffered a massive hemorrhage during a Caesarean delivery. She says, “I might not be here today if it wasn’t for the three troopers here that brought me that blood…. I’ve actually been on a ride-along where we did a blood run. Never thought in a million years that that blood run would be something that would save my life. So I’m very, very grateful to these troopers.” Jaeger and Baby Ryan are doing fine.
Troopers have made 34 blood runs so far this year in Minnesota and averaged 73 annually for the last five years. Blood runs are only requested by hospitals when there is a massive loss of blood during surgery and an urgent need.
