The Minnesota Supreme Court ruled today a school board in southern Minnesota was wrong to expel a student who accidentally brought a pocket knife to her high school in Wells and left it in her locker in her purse. The high court upheld a Court of Appeals ruling, saying United South Central Public Schools did not show that Alyssa Drescher willfully violated school policy or endangered others. Drescher told the principal she used the pocket knife to cut twine at her boyfriend’s farm and “totally forgot” it was in her purse. The district argued the knife could have gotten into the wrong hands.
