(St. Paul, MN) — The state Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a Little Falls man serving life in prison for shooting and killing two teenage intruders in his home on Thanksgiving Day 2012. The court ruled that there were not enough errors in 67-year-old Byron Smith’s 2014 murder trial to re-try the case. Smith’s attorneys had argued there were many mistakes made at trial–including the improper closing of the courtroom. Smith claims he shot 18-year-old Haile Kifer and 17-year-old Nick Brady in self-defense after they broke into his home.
