As Thanksgiving nears, the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association is donating over 13 thousand pounds of turkey to Minnesota foodshelves. Hunger Solutions’ Colleen Moriarty says in many cases people end up at foodshelves not because of long-term poverty, but rather “one blip on the screen. She says, “Maybe it was brakes. Maybe it was a medical emergency. Maybe it was a traffic accident. But they know that that one blip in their budget means that they’re not gonna have enough food.”
Moriarty says they’ve been partners with the Turkey Growers for almost two decades and it means a tremendous amount that agriculture and foodshelves are working hand-in-hand.
