The Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA) has authorized around 5,000 nurses to go on strike after rejecting an Allina Health contract Monday.
The nurses work at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis, Mercy in Coon Rapids, Unity in Fridley and United in St. Paul. The union says Allina is proposing to take away nurses’ affordable health plans and move them to corporate plans with big out-of-pocket costs for employees.
Allina says it’s offering nurses the same health insurance plans it offers all other employees.
MNA must give the employer a 10-day notice for a strike.
