Vikes head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters yesterday that veteran back up Q-B Carson Wentz will start under center against the Chargers tomorrow night in Los Angeles. Wentz is 2-2 since taking over for McCarthy, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Week Two. Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 7:15 P-M. In other team news, running back Aaron Jones was designated for return from injury. Jones is recovering from a hamstring issue.

The Devils have now won five in a row after beating the Maple Leafs 5-2 in Toronto last night. Jack Hughes recorded the third hat trick of his career after scoring three goals. (Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins could be bringing back a franchise legend to lead the team. Matthew Leach of M-L-B-dot-com is reporting that the Twins have held conversations with Torii Hunter about their vacant managerial role. Hunter played with the Twins from 1997 until 2007, and he ended his career with the team in the 2015 season. He’s spent the last two seasons in the Angels front office.

(Anaheim, CA) — The Los Angeles Angels are hiring Kurt Suzuki as manager. Suzuki spent 16 years as a Major League catcher before retiring in 2022. He spent the past three seasons as a special assistant to Angels’ general manager Perry Minasian. Suzuki has no professional coaching experience. The Angels have the longest playoff drought in the M-L-B. Suzuki played for the Minnesota Twins from 2014-16 and was an all-star for the Twins at Target Field in 2014.

The preseason scrimmage was originally slated for 2 P-M, but with the Gopher football kickoff time set for 2:40 P-M on Saturday, the two schools agreed to push the basketball tipoff ahead.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Golden Gopher women’s hockey coach Brad Frost says he didn’t agree with the W-C-H-A’s decision to suspend one of his players after a post-game skirmish with number-two Ohio State last Sunday. Third-ranked Minnesota won the game 6-3 and came under attack after the game. The conference ruled Minnesota defender Chloe Primerano escalated the brawl and gave her a one-game ban, meaning she’ll miss Friday’s game at number-four Minnesota-Duluth. Defender Gracie Graham will also miss the game because she was given a game misconduct for her part in the melee. Frost says he spoke with conference officials and defended his players’ actions, but the league handed out the suspension anyway. One Ohio State player was also suspended for her role and will miss the Buckeyes’ game this Friday against 11th-rated St. Cloud State.
