>>Wolves Rally To Win Season Opener In Portland

(Portland, OR) — Minnesota star guard Anthony Edwards went off for 41 points as the Timberwolves rallied to beat the Trail Blazers 118-114 in the season opener last night in Portland. Julius Randle added 19 points and Jaden McDaniels added 18 for Minnesota, which outscored the Blazers 30-19 in the fourth quarter. Jerami Grant dropped in 29 points off the bench to pace the Blazers. Deni Avdija (Denny AHV-dee-uh) donated 20 points in the setback. The 1-0 Wolves visit the Lakers tomorrow night at 9 P-M.

(Newark, NJ) — Minnesota wing Matt Boldy scored the only goal as the Wild finished a dismal road trip with a 4-1 loss in New Jersey. The Devils opened up a 3-0 lead with goals in each period before Boldy finally got on the board with his fifth goal of the season. Despite 32 saves from Filip Gustavsson, the Wild still suffered defeat and finished the five game road trip at 1-3-1 grabbing just three out of a possible 10 points. Minnesota is now home for 11 of the next 13 including an upcoming six game homestand which starts this weekend with games against Utah and San Jose.

(Inglewood, CA) — The Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Chargers both look to stay above .500 when they meet at So-Fi Stadium for Thursday Night Football tonight at 7:15 P-M. The 3-3 Purple are coming off a 28-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. Minnesota has allowed the fifth-fewest yards in the N-F-L this season. The team is starting Carson Wentz at quarterback for the fifth game in a row as J-J McCarthy continues to recover from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, the 4-3 Chargers just lost to Indianapolis 38-24 on Sunday. The team is hoping to get starting left tackle Joe Alt of North Oaks back from an ankle injury as Justin Herbert is the fifth-most sacked quarterback in the league this year. Minnesota has won three of its last four games against the Chargers.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — A future Hall of Fame quarterback isn’t thinking about revenge. Steelers’ gunslinger Aaron Rodgers told the media on Wednesday he has “no animosity” toward the Packers. This is the first time the 41-year-old will play his former team when the sides clash from Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football. Rodgers spent a pair of injury-riddled seasons with the Jets following his Green Bay exit.

(Lake Forest, IL) — Injuries are mounting for the Chicago Bears. Five players missed practice with injuries yesterday, including wide receiver D-J Moore, running back D’Andre Swift, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Four other players were limited participants in practice. The Bears visit the Ravens on Sunday.

(Allen Park, MI) — The Detroit Lions have the week off. They will host the Minnesota Vikings in their next game on November 2nd. The Lions are currently second in the N-F-C North at 5-2, just behind the 4-1-and-1 Packers. In roster news, the team has placed linebacker Zach Cunningham on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Golden Gopher football team continues to prepare for the Saturday border battle game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Minnesota will visit Kinnick Stadium to face the Hawkeyes with each team sharing 5-2 ovearll season marks and 3-1 Big Ten records. Gopher quarterback Drake Lindsey says going against an Iowa defense is always a challenge because they have one of the top coordinators in the country on that side of the ball in Phil Parker. >>Twins Announce Diamond Awards

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Twins have released their list of Diamond Award winners for the 2025 season. The Diamond Awards honor the best players from within the organization. Byron Buxton was named the Most Valuable Twin, and Joe Ryan earned the Pitcher of the Year award. Brooks Lee, Ryan Jeffers, Austin Martin, Pablo Lopez, and Luke Keaschall also won awards. The players will receive their awards on January 23rd.

(Toronto, ON) — The Fall Classic is nearly here. The defending champion Dodgers battle the Blue Jays in Game One of the World Series from Toronto on Friday. Los Angeles first baseman Freddie Freeman says the dynasty talks are humbling. L-A is going for its third title in six years after dominating the Brewers in a sweep of the N-L-C-S to advance. On the other side, Toronto is playing for its first World Series in more than three decades after it celebrated back-to-back championships in 1992-and-93. The Jays fought back from a 3-2 A-L-C-S deficit to sink the Mariners and secure the American League pennant. >>San Francisco Giants Hire Tennessee’s Tony Vitello As Manager

(San Francisco, CA) — The San Francisco Giants are hiring University of Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello to be their next manager. The club made the formal announcement Wednesday with President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey calling him one of the most innovative and respected coaches in college baseball today. This marks the first time a college coach has made a jump to the majors without either coaching or playing in the pros. Vitello coached the Vols for eight seasons, winning a College World Series in 2024. He takes over for Bob Melvin, who was let go after an 81-81 season.

(Ivins, UT) — Matt McCarty will be looking to defend his crown at the P-G-A Tour’s Bank of Utah Championship. McCarty won last year’s tournament after finishing atop the leaderboard by three strokes at Black Desert Resort. The 27-year-old will be alongside Billy Horschel and Maverick McNealy for the first and second rounds. Ryan Palmer, Greyson Sigg and Isaiah Salinda will be among the first group of players teeing off round one in Ivins. Stillwater native Frankie Capan III and Fargo’s Tom Hoge are scheduled to take part.

>>Daytona 500 Delayed a Week in 2027 Due to Super Bowl

(Daytona, FL) — The 69th running of the Daytona 500 will not be held on Presidents’ Day weekend in 2027 due to a conflict with the Super Bowl. The Great American Race kicks off the NASCAR Cup Series season and will move to February 21st in 2027 to avoid a head-to-head conflict with the N-F-L Championship on February 14th, Valentine’s Day. NASCAR’s Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, was also postponed in 2011 for the same reason. The rest of NASCAR’s 2027 schedule likely won’t be released until late 2026.
