(St. Paul, MN) — Once again the Wild battled from behind but in the end the Jets tied the game late and won in overtime 4-3 in St. Paul. Minnesota was down 2-0 after one period but scored three straight on goals by Kirill Kaprizov, Brock Faber and Marcus Johansson. But former Wild winger Nino Niederreiter scored midway through the third to tie the game at 3-3 then a bad Kaprizov turnover in the extra frame ended up on the stick of Kyle Connor who ended the game just :46 seconds into O-T. The Wild are now 0-1-2 to open the six game homestand and have also lost four straight overall. They’re home against the Canucks at 7 P-M tomorrow night.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves look to get back above .500 when they host the Los Angeles Lakers at the Target Center tonight. The Wolves are coming off a 127-114 loss to the Denver Nuggets at home on Monday. Anthony Edwards will miss a second straight game with a hamstring injury. Minnesota is off to a 2-2 start this season. Los Angeles is without stars LeBron James and Luka Doncic, while Jaxson Hayes and Marcus Smart are both listed as questionable for the contest. The Lakers enter at 2-2 on the season. Tonight’s game tips off at 8:30 P-M.

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings will start installing their Week Nine gameplan during their first practice of the week today. The Purple visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday. J-J McCarthy is expected to start at quarterback for the first time since injuring his ankle in Week Two. The Vikings are in last place in the N-F-C North at 3-4. The Lions come out of their bye week second in the N-F-C North at 5-2, just behind the 5-1-and-1 Packers. Sunday’s game kicks off at noon. In other team news, the Vikes released safety K’Von Wallace from the practice squad.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Green Bay Packers will be back home this weekend. Green Bay will play the Panthers Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Packers have won their last three meetings with Carolina since 2019. Green Bay enters the matchup at 5-1-and-1, first place in the N-F-C North.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears are making some roster moves ahead of their Week Nine game against the Bengals. The Bears activated edge rusher Austin Booker from injured reserve yesterday. The second-year rotational player hasn’t played in 2025 after registering one-and-a-half sacks in 2024. Booker played for the Golden Gophers from 2021-22 before transferring to Kansas. Chicago also placed rookie defensive tackle Shemar Turner on season-ending I-R after he tore his A-C-L during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens. Turner had six tackles, including two for a loss, in five games with the Bears this season.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota football team continues to prepare for Saturday’s game against Michigan State. The 5-3 Gophers are 3-2 in the Big Ten after Saturday’s road loss at Iowa 41-3. The visiting Spartans are 3-5 overall and 0-5 in the Big Ten. The two programs did not face each other last year, but did play in Minneapolis in 2023 with Minnesota winning 27-12. (Minneapolis, MN) — The 20th-ranked Golden Gopher volleyball team hosts Illinois tonight in a midweek Big Ten match at Maturi Pavilion in Minneapolis. Minnesota has won two of its past three matches and sits at 16-5 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten. The visiting Fighting Illini have dropped two straight games and enter tonight’s contest at 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the league. Match time is 7 P-M and it will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

(Undated) — The Southeastern Conference is asking the N-C-A-A to rescind its new rule allowing athletes and athletic department staff to bet on professional sports. E-S-P-N reports S-E-C commissioner Greg Sankey sent a letter to N-C-A-A President Charlie Baker on Saturday asking to restore prior safeguards. Sankey says the policy threatens the integrity of collegiate competition and risks student-athletes. This follows a recently approved rule by the N-C-A-A for Divisions One, two, and Three, which continues to restrict betting on college sports and sharing insider information. N-C-A-A officials say the change reflects modern sports realities and does not compromise integrity.
>>World Juniors Pre-Tournament Hockey Series Announced
(Undated) – Games and dates have been announced for the upcoming World Juniors Pre-Tournament Hockey Series coming to Minnesota. This tournament will mark 50 years of the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) World Junior Championship, with the top teams in the world. Duluth, Bemidji, Mankato, and Rochester have been chosen as sites for the pre-tournament games. Team U-S-A will be in Duluth to meet Finland and Germany at AMSOIL Arena during the dates of December 19 – 23. The championship tournament will then move to Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul and 3-M Mariucci Arena at the University of Minnesota and take place between December 26 and January 5. Tickets are now available for all sites.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Blue Jays bounced back from a heartbreaking loss to beat the Dodgers 6-2 in Game Four of the World Series. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. launched his seventh home run of the postseason when he hit a two-run shot off Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani was charged with the loss after allowing four runs on six hits and a walk. He also went 0-for-3 at the plate with a couple of strikeouts. The World Series is now even at two games apiece with Game Five slated for tonight in Los Angeles.
