(Detroit, MI) — Vikings quarterback J-J McCarthy had a strong performance in his return from injury as Minnesota upset the Detroit Lions 27-24 at Ford Field yesterday. The Vikings quarterback threw for touchdowns on Minnesota’s first two drives of the game, and he added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Minnesota iced the game when McCarthy threw a perfect back-shoulder pass to Jalen Nailor for a first down late in the fourth quarter. Vikes linebacker Blake Cashman of Eden Prairie had 14 tackles and a forced fumble. The Vikings improved to 4-4, but still sit in fourth-place in the N-F-C North. Lions Q-B Jared Goff threw for 284 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown each recorded 97 receiving yards for the Lions, who dropped to 5-3. The Vikes will host the Ravens on Sunday at noon.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Panthers pulled off a massive upset at Lambeau Field. Rookie Ryan Fitzgerald nailed a 49-yard field goal to give Carolina a 16-13 win over the Packers. The Panthers have won four of their last five games. Jordan Love threw for more than 270 yards to go with an interception for Green Bay, which entered the game as a two-touchdown favorite. Green Bay is concerned that tight end Tucker Kraft tore his A-C-L in the loss. Kraft was hurt during the third quarter and coach Matt LaFleur said postgame he will undergo testing on Monday. Kraft has 30 catches for 469 yards and six touchdowns this season, all team highs.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Chicago Bears avoided a massive collapse with a 47-42 win over the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium. The Bears led 41-27 with just over two minutes left in regulation before the Bengals scored a touchdown, recovered an onside kick, and scored another TD to take the lead in the final minute. However, Caleb Williams tossed a 58-yard touchdown to Colston Loveland with 17 seconds to play. Williams passed for 280 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, and he also caught a TD from DJ Moore. The Bears have won four of five. Joe Flacco had 470 passing yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions in the losing effort. Cincinnati has dropped six of seven.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota football team got two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Drake Lindsey, including the game-winner in overtime, and beat Michigan State 23-20 on Saturday at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Lindsey’s overtime bootleg dash was reviewed by replay officials and upheld to send the Golden Gophers to a 6-3 overall record and 4-2 in the Big Ten. Michigan State fell to 3-6 overall and 0-6 in the league. Minnesota has won three straight meetings over the Spartans. (Minneapolis, MN) — The Niko Medved-era of Minnesota Gophers basketball officially gets underway when Minnesota hosts Gardner-Webb at Williams Arena tonight. The Gophers hired Medved from Colorado State after last season. Minnesota has not been in the N-C-A-A Tournament since 2019. The Gophers swept past North Dakota State and North Dakota in a pair of exhibition games over the past few weeks. Tonight’s game tips off at 7 P-M at The Barn. Meanwhile, the Gopher women’s team will open the season tomorrow at home against North Dakota at 7 P-M at Williams Arena.

(Undated) — The St. Thomas men’s and women’s basketball teams open the season tonight with road games. The Tommies men’s team is at St. Mary’s in Moraga, California for a 9 P-M tipoff. The St. Thomas women play at 14th-ranked Iowa State this morning at 11 A-M. This is the first year the two teams are eligible to make the N-C-A-A Division Tournament at the end of the regular season.

(Charlotte, NC) — The Minnesota Timberwolves got back in the win column with a 122-105 win over the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center on Saturday night in North Carolina. The Wolves led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter following a back-and-forth first half. Julius Randle poured in 30 points in the victory. Minnesota improved to 3-3. The T-Wolves visit the Nets tonight.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild snapped a five-game losing streak with a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Grand Casino Arena on Saturday. The Wild scored three goals in the third period of the victory. Vladimir Tarasenko, Marco Rossi, Vinnie Hinostroza, Jonas Brodin, and Ryan Hartman all lit the lamp in the victory. Minnesota is in seventh place in the Central Division with 11 points. The Wild host Nashville tomorrow night.

The driver of the Number-5 car finished third in the final race of the season in overtime from Phoenix Raceway to secure the title. It’s his second-career victory after winning it all in 2021. As for the other Championship Four drivers, Denny Hamlin finished in sixth, Chase Briscoe came in 18th and William Byron ended up in 33rd.
