(Bronx, NY) — The Minnesota Twins got seven scoreless innings from starting and winning pitcher Joe Ryan and beat the Yankees in New York yesterday 6-1. Ryan allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and walked one to improve to 6-5 on the year. First baseman Royce Lewis collected two hits and two R-B-I, while third baseman Brooks Lee was 3-for-5 with an R-B-I and a run scored. Minnesota took two of three games in the series, winning a set at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2014. The Twins outscored the Yankees 17-5 in the final two games of the holiday weekend. Minnesota improved to 44-47 on the season, sitting four games behind first-place Chicago in the American League Central. The Twins are just a game-and-a-half out of the final A-L Wild Card position. The Pinstripes dropped to 49-40 and are four-game out of first place in the A-L East. Minnesota is off tonight and will open a three-game series against Cleveland tomorrow night at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Triple-A St. Paul Saints lost at home to Buffalo yesterday 8-3, splitting the six-game series 3-3. The Saints dipped to 48-37 on the season, while the visiting Bisons improved to 42-45. Outfielder Matt Wallner homered in the setback. St. Paul is off tonight and will open a six-game set in Des Moines tomorrow night facing the Iowa Cubs.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The first-place Minnesota Lynx are looking to bounce back from a Friday night loss in New York with a home game tonight against Connecticut. The Liberty whipped Minnesota on Friday in Brooklyn, 99-86, to drop the Lynx’s season record to 15-5. They are a half-game ahead of Las Vegas for the best overall record in the W-N-B-A. Connecticut is a league-worst 4-13 so far this season after a Thursday night 86-83 loss against Dallas. The Sun have lost eight of their last ten games. This is the first matchup between these two teams this season. Lynx center Dorka Juhasz is listed as probable for the game. If she plays, it will be her first game of the season. Napheesa Collier is still listed as out for tonight’s game, which tips off at 7 P-M at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves are practicing early this week in Minneapolis before heading to Las Vegas for the 2026 N-B-A Summer League Tournament. The slate opens on Thursday in Vegas for the Wolves, who take on New Orleans at 2:30 P-M. Minnesota will also play Denver on Saturday, and Portland and Indiana next week as part of the preliminary round. The top teams will advance to a tournament after that. The Wolves are holding a Summer League minicamp at team headquarters through Wednesday of this week. Minnesota’s Summer League roster includes second-round pick Trey Kaufman-Renn from Purdue, as well as second-year players Joan Beringer, Damion Baugh, Donovan Williams and Rocco Zikarsky. Third-year players on the roster include Enrique Freeman and Zyon Pullin. Guard Isiaah Evans of Duke is not yet officially on the roster because the trade sending him from Brooklyn to Minnesota is still being finalized.

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota men’s basketball team had the weekend off for the holiday and will resume summer workouts this week on campus. The Golden Gophers are blending in ten newcomers with a returning core of four players and have had an intense summer of practices so far. Junior-to-be guard Isaac Asuma (awesome-uh) of Cherry says he is feeling more comfortable in the system this summer than he did a year ago when he was learning it for the first time. Head coach Niko Medved is entering his second season at the helm after guiding the Gophers to a 15-18 record last year with a postseason appearance in the Crown Basketball Classic in Las Vegas.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild helped their blue line depth by re-signing Daemon Hunt to a one-year deal worth 900-thousand dollars. The 24-year-old Hunt was a third-round pick of the Wild in the 2020 N-H-L Draft and has played in 45 games for the Wild over the past three seasons. He has seven assists and 62 blocked shots in those games. He has been good for the A-H-L Iowa Wild, tallying 59 points in parts of five seasons.

(Undated) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is expanding its ban on feeding deer and using deer attractants in an effort to slow the spread of chronic wasting disease. Five counties have been added to the restrictions: Becker, Clearwater, Grant, McLeod and Meeker. That brings the total number of counties under the ban to 37. Wildlife experts say feeding deer can lead to overcrowding, making it easier for diseases to spread. More information is available on the Minnesota D-N-R website.
