(Chicago, IL) — The Minnesota Twins fell behind 10-0 after four innings and lost to the Cubs in Chicago yesterday 10-1. Twins right-hander Zebby Matthews allowed all ten runs, eight of which were earned, in three-plus innings of work. He allowed nine hits and walked three Chicago batters. He fell to 4-7 on the season. Minnesota infielder Royce Lewis drove home the lone Twins run with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. The Cubs claimed the final two games of the three-game series to win the set, improving to 56-43 on the year. The 49-51 Twins fell to four games out of first-place in the A-L Central and two games out of the A-L Wild Card position. Minnesota opens a key four-game series at Cleveland tonight at 5:40 P-M.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Triple-A St. Paul Saints carried a no-hitter into the seventh and beat the Louisville Bats last night at home 5-1. The victory secured a four-game sweep for the Saints, who improved to 54-41 on the season. Louisville collected its first hit in the seventh inning. St. Paul is off tonight and will start a six-game home series against Columbus tomorrow night at C-H-S Field.

(Seattle, WA) — The Minnesota Lynx are looking to extend their current five-game winning streak when they visit the Seattle Storm tonight at Climate Pledge Arena. The Lynx beat Portland on Saturday night in Minneapolis 101-93 to improve to a league-best 20-6 on the year. Kayla McBride has 24-points to lead the way. Rookie point guard Olivia Miles registered a 14-point, ten-assist double-double in the victory. The host Storm are 6-21 on the year, including a 1-6 mark in the month of July. (Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota men’s hockey team had an intense month of June with summer workouts and is now gearing back up to begin preseason drills next month. New head coach Brett Larson is hoping to get the Golden Gophers back onto the national stage after a drop-off a year ago. Star player Brodie Ziemer (ZEEM-er) says the June workouts were huge in allowing everyone to adjust to the new coaching staff, which he says is great. Ziemer is Minnesota’s top returning player. The Gophers open the season in October.

(East Rutherford, NJ) — Spain are World Cup champions. The Red Fury took down Argentina 1-0 in extra time to secure their second-ever tournament win. Ferran Torres scored in extra time as Spain held on from East Rutherford. Enzo Fernandez received a second yellow card and got sent off for Argentina, which was trying to defend its World Cup title from four years ago. Lionel Messi created several dangerous chances late in the second half of extra time, but the defending champions could not find an equalizer to send the match to penalties.

(Southport, England) — Ryan Fox captured his first career major championship after winning the Open at Royal Birkdale. Fox finished atop the leaderboard by one stroke after shooting 10 under par. It’s his third Tour title. Cameron Young was second at nine under, and Sam Burns finished third at eight under par. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler finished tied for fourth with Tommy Fleetwood at seven under.

(North Wilkesboro, NC) — Joey Logano took home the checkered flag in the Window World 450 from North Wilkesboro Speedway. The driver of the Number-22 car earned his first victory of the NASCAR Cup Series season. Denny Hamlin, Chase Briscoe, Ty Gibbs and Shane van Gisbergen rounded out the top-five finishers. The In-Season challenge concludes next Sunday at the Brickyard 400 from Indy Motor Speedway.
>>Enhanced Burning Restrictions Take Effect Monday in Northeastern Minnesota
(St. Paul, MN) — Enhanced burning restrictions will take effect today in parts of northeastern Minnesota as wildfire danger remains high. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is activating Class IV(Four) burning restrictions for Cook, Koochiching, Lake and northern St. Louis counties, along with George Washington State Forest and Scenic State Park. Campfires, recreational fires and private prescribed burns will be prohibited, and fireworks will not be allowed outside municipalities. D-N-R Wildfire Administration Supervisor Mike Warnke says recent rainfall has not been enough to ease extremely dry conditions, and one spark could ignite a catastrophic wildfire.
