(Minneapolis, MN) — The Minnesota Timberwolves came up short during a 135-134 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers in a preseason game at the Target Center. The Wolves trailed by as many as 24 points in the third quarter before rallying to force O-T, but Enrique Freeman missed a game-winning three at the buzzer in the extra period. Johnny Juzang (JOO-zang) poured in 20 points off the bench, while Anthony Edwards finished with 17 points in his first appearance of the preseason. Minnesota is 1-1 in exhibition play. The Wolves visit the Knicks tomorrow night.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Wild are gearing up for their first game of the season. The Wild visit the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center tomorrow night. Minnesota has made the postseason in five of the last six seasons, but the team hasn’t won a playoff series since 2015. Tomorrow’s game gets underway at 7 P-M in the Gateway City. In other team news, the Wild recalled forward Hunter Haight from A-H-L Iowa and placed forward Nico Sturm and Mats Zuccarello on Injured Reserve. The 21-year old Haight was a 2022 second round pick of Minnesota and has not appeared in an N-H-L yet.

(Eagan, MN) — The Minnesota Vikings are opening up some roster spots. The team cut tight end Nick Vannett and offensive lineman Vershon Lee on Monday. Vannett has appeared in three games for Minnesota, while Lee saw time in one. The moves were made just before linebacker Blake Cashman and running back Ty Chandler are eligible to be activated from injured reserve. The Vikings have a bye this week before taking on Philadelphia on October 19th.

(Minneapolis, MN) — Golden Gopher football coach P-J Fleck says the team’s job this week is simple: to win the Homecoming football game. He joked that others can worry about the festivities surrounding the week like parades and concerts and dances. Fleck says the football team is focused on beating Purdue when the two teams play on Saturday night at Huntington Bank Stadium. Minnesota enters the contest with a 3-2 overall mark and 1-1 in the Big Ten. The Golden Gophers were humbled by top-ranked Ohio State last Saturday in Columbus 42-3. The visiting Boilermakers are 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. Purdue lost at home to Illinois last week 43-27. Saturday’s game kicks off at 6:40 P-M. (Minneapolis, MN) — The 14th-ranked University of Minnesota volleyball team is back on their home floor tonight when U-C-L-A visits Minneapolis for a Big Ten match. The Golden Gophers are coming off of a four-set win at Northwestern on Sunday and bring a 13-2 overall record to tonight’s match. Minnesota is 3-1 in the Big Ten. The visiting Bruins are 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference. U-C-L-A has dropped back-to-back matches. Tonight’s match is set to start at 7 P-M at Maturi Pavilion.

(Minneapolis, MN) — New Golden Gopher men’s basketball coach Niko Medved will put his team on public display for the first time on Saturday afternoon at Williams Arena. The “Maroon and Gold” scrimmage will tip off at 2 P-M at The Barn and give fans their first peak at the new-look Gophers under the first-year head coach. Following the one-hour scrimmage, players will sign autographs for fans. Medved says this will give fans who are attending Saturday night’s football game a chance to get a glance at his team while they wait for kickoff. Tailgate parking lots for the football game open at 12:30 P-M, so tailgaters can get parked and then go watch basketball if they choose. The “Maroon and Gold” scrimmage is free and tickets will not be required.

(Sioux Falls, SD) — The St. Thomas men’s basketball team has been tabbed the favorite to win the Summit League crown for the upcoming season. The Tommies received 17 of the 36 first-place votes in a survey of the league head coaches, sports communications staffs, and media members who cover the league. Omaha earned 13 first-place votes and was chosen to finish second, followed by South Dakota State, which had five first-place tallies. North Dakota State was selected to finish fourth, followed by South Dakota, Kansas City, Denver, North Dakota, and Oral Roberts. St. Thomas sophomore Nolan Minessale was chosen the Summit League Preseason Player of the Year. He was joined on the preseason First-Team by teammate Carter Bjerke. The Tommies finished second in the league last year with a 12-4 conference mark. St. Thomas is eligible to make the N-C-A-A Tournament for the first time as a Division I member.

His sophomore teammate Ty Hanson of Hermantown is the N-C-H-C Defensive Player of the Week. And, U-M-D sophomore Adam Gajan of Poprad, Slovakia is the N-C-H-C Goaltender of the Week. Bemidji State senior Adam Flammang of St. Michael is the C-C-H-A Forward of the Week, while St. Thomas junior Chase Cheslock of Rogers is the C-C-H-A Defenseman of the Week.

(Undated) — Two American League ballclubs are now locked into 2-1 Division round series. The Mariners took down the Tigers 8-4 from Detroit to pull ahead in the best-of-five series. The Yankees staved-off elimination after edging the Blue Jays 9-6 from the Bronx. All eight teams are in action on Wednesday. Seattle will try to advance past Detroit in the Motor City, the Brewers hope to sweep the Cubs in the N-L-D-S from Wrigley, New York will once again attempt to stay alive against Toronto in front of its home crowd and the defending champion Dodgers are eying a sweep of the Phillies from L-A to make the N-L-C-S.
>>Rays Owners Want To Repair Tropicana Field
(St. Petersburg, FL) — The Rays are committed to Tropicana Field. That’s according to the new ownership group led by Patrick Zalupski, which hopes to repair the stadium before the start of next season. The roof got damaged by Hurricane Milton a year ago and the team was forced to play home games at the Yankees’ Spring Training field. Zalupski still wants to find a new ballpark for the 2029 season.
