>>Twins Fall To White Sox Again

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Chicago White Sox launched four home runs during a 12-3 win over the Minnesota Twins at Target Field last night. Andrew Benintendi had two home runs and five R-B-I in the victory, while Kyle Teel and Lenyn Sosa also went yard for the visiting White Sox. Davis Martin earned his sixth win after giving up three runs on six hits in six innings. The Southsiders are in last place in the A-L Central at 51-88. Minnesota reliever Thomas Hatch was charged with his first loss with the Twins, who are in fourth place in the Central at 62-76. Game three of the four-game series is tonight in downtown Minneapolis at 6:40 P-M.

(Louisville, KY) — The Triple-A St. Paul Saints surrendered seven runs in the bottom of the first and rallied to make it close, but suffered a 9-7 loss to the Louisville Bats at Louisville Slugger Field. Kendry Rojas was charged with his second loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits in a third of an inning. The 58-73 Saints send Andrew Morris to the mound against Louisville today at 11:05 A-M.

(Eagan, MN) — It is finally game week for the Minnesota Vikings, who open their N-F-L schedule with a Monday Night game in Chicago. (Lake Forest, IL) — The Chicago Bears have revealed who will be protecting Caleb Williams’ blindside. The Bears announced that Braxton Jones will open the season as their staring left tackle. Jones is entering his fourth season in the N-F-L. He started 12 games for Chicago last season. The Bears host the Vikings in their season opener on Monday Night Football in the Windy City.

(Green Bay, WI) — The Green Bay Packers will kick off their season this weekend with a divisional game. Green Bay will host the Detroit Lions Sunday at Lambeau Field. The Packers lost both of their meetings with Detroit last season. This is the first time that Green Bay is opening the season at home since 2018. Both teams have hopes of winning the 2025 N-F-C North Division crown.

>>Gopher Football Prepping For Demons

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Golden Gopher football team will have another late morning practice today, preparing for Saturday’s test against Northwestern State of Louisiana. The visiting Demons snapped a 20-game losing streak with their 20-10 win over Alcorn State last Thursday. Minnesota started the season 1-0 after beating Buffalo 23-10 in last Thursday’s season opener in Minneapolis. Head coach P-J Fleck says the Thursday wins should give each team confidence and he says the focus will be on his team during practice this week. Saturday’s game kicks off at 11 A-M at Huntington Bank Stadium on the U of M campus on Saturday. There are tickets still available.

>>Gopher AD Is Happy With Football Program

(Minneapolis, MN) — University of Minnesota athletic director Mark Coyle says he is happy with the atmosphere surrounding Golden Gopher football after last Thursday’s near sellout in a season-opening victory over Buffalo. Coyle says head coach P-J Fleck has brought a lot of excitement to the program and nine years of building and growth has led to a lot of interest in the team. Coyle and Fleck are the longest-tenured combination of football and athletic director serving at the same school at the same time in the nation. Coyle is entering his tenth year in Minnesota, while Fleck just began his ninth as head coach. Coyle says that sustainability gives them an advantage because the duo works well together based on a work history of trust and knowledge. Coyle made his remarks during the most recent episode of the “Go Gopher Podcast.” The Gopher football team is 1-0 this season and will host Northwestern State this Saturday at 11 A-M.

(Undated) — Minnesota State-Moorhead senior linebacker Mitchell Jezierski of Rogers is the N-S-I-C Football Defensive Player of the Week, while Minnesota State-Mankato sophomore kicker Connor Fournier of Maple Grove is the N-S-I-C Football Special Teams Player of the Week. Augustana junior quarterback Gunnar Hensley of Carlsbad, California is the N-S-I-C Football Offensive Player of the Week. All three players led their respective teams to season-opening victories last week. The Northern Sun has a full slate of conference games this Saturday.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota United are locking down one of their top defenders. The club signed Anthony Markanich to a contract extension yesterday. The new deal keeps Markanich in the Twin Cities through the 2028 season, and it includes an option for 2029. Markanich has six goals and one assist in 26 matches this season. The Loons next match is on September 13th against San Diego.

(Queens, NY) — The quarterfinals at the U-S Tennis Open got underway Tuesday. Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz cruised to a win over 20th-seeded Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to lock up his spot in the semifinals. In other men’s action, seventh-seeded Novak Djokovic claimed a four-set win over fourth-seeded American Taylor Fritz to advance. On the women’s side, fourth-seeded American Jessica Pegula swept her matchup against Barbora Krejcikova, while top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka moved on after her opponent Marketa Vondroušová was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury during practice. The quarterfinals continue Wednesday.
