The Minnesota chapter of Moms Demand Action is criticizing a vote by Republicans in conference committee to leave controversial gun measures out of a public safety budget bill. Spokesperson Erin Zamoff says there’s still time for House and Senate negotiators to put public safety before politics. At issue are criminal background checks and a proposed “red flag” law designed to keep guns out of the hands of those judged to be a threat to themselves or others. Opponents say the measures do nothing to keep guns away from criminals.
