Former Vice President Walter Mondale says he’s “very positive” that Senator Amy Klobuchar will jump into the race for president and do “very well” in the Iowa caucuses early next year. Mondale says, “She’s got a second engine on her like Hubert [Humphrey]. She just doesn’t get tired, which is a good thing to have. When she starts in Iowa there, it’ll just be like one neighbor to another.” Mondale says after Iowa, Klobuchar “can spread her wings and… help all of us get some strong new leadership in the White House.”
But analysts say early polls show Klobuchar’s name recognition is a fraction of other Democrats already running for president, and “possibles” like Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have even stronger numbers. Klobuchar will make what’s billed as a “major announcement” Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis.
