A Bloomington father is among the hundreds of people who were killed in a terrorist attack over the weekend in Somalia. Ahmed Eyow died in a truck bombing Saturday in the capital city of Mogadishu. The 50-year-old was on a short trip to Kenya and Somalia when the blast happened. Eyow was in his hotel room at the time of the blast. Eyow, was a welder who recently received his bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University and was working on his master’s degree. Eyow one day hoped to work for the United Nations and help re-build his home country. Eyow leaves behind a wife and three children. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Authorities say a small plane crash on the Mississippi River north of the Twin Cities killed a Princeton couple Friday night. The body of 48-year-old Jill Rygwall was found in the river shortly after the crash. Sunday afternoon the wreckage of the plane was pulled from the bottom of the river. A body believed to be that of the pilot, 47-year-old Chad Rygwall, was pulled from the plane shortly after. Officials believe the plane struck a set of power lines before it went down in the water near Ramsey.
The parents of a Burnsville teenager who died in a North Dakota State University dorm room last month says their son died of natural causes. 17-year-old Devin Delaney passed away in his sleep due to a heart condition. The autopsy also showed there were no signs of any drugs or alcohol in Delaney’s system. He was a senior at Burnsville High School. He was visiting a friend at NDSU.
A Minnesota federal judge says he hopes President Trump allows the release of thousands of documents connected to the assassination of President Kennedy. In 1992, the National Archives agreed to release the records in 25-years, unless the President orders them to remain sealed. U.S. District Judge John Tunheim who chaired the JFK Assassination Records Review Board, says he has no idea how Trump plans to act before the deadline in two weeks. He says some of the sealed materials include information about a mysterious bus trip that Lee Harvey Oswald took to Mexico, when he visited the Soviet and Cuban Embassies. An additional 30-thousand records “not considered relevant” to the assassination are also scheduled for release.
No one is in custody after a man was found shot to death in Minneapolis. Police say the victim’s body was discovered last night in a parked car. The victim’s name hasn’t been released. The killing is the city’s 35th homicide of the year.
