>>Closing arguments today in Yanez trial
Closing arguments are expected today in the manslaughter trial of St. Anthony Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez. The jurors will likely begin deliberations some time this afternoon. On Friday, Yanez took the stand and through tears at times, testified that he didn’t want to shoot Philando Castile, but that he feared for his life and “had no other choice.” Yanez says he saw Castile pull out his gun during a July 6th traffic stop-soon after Castile admitted he was carrying a firearm. The prosecution contends Castile was going for his wallet when Yanez shot him seven times. Yanez initially pulled Castile over for a brake light violation, and because he said Castile looked like an armed robbery suspect from the area that occurred four days earlier.
