>>Minnesota House Committee Discusses Economic Impact of Operation Metro Surge

(St. Paul, MN) — The House Ways and Means Committee will discuss the latest economic impact numbers of Operation Metro Surge on Minnesota this morning (Mon) at the Capitol.   Testifiers will include school and local government leaders along with small business owners.  The City of Minneapolis announced in February that the impact of the federal ICE operation was at least 203 million dollars.  Committee Vice Chair Representative Cedrick Frazier of New Hope will lead the discussion.

 

>>Four People Arrested Outside Whipple Federal Building

(Fort Snelling, MN — The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office reports four people were arrested during an anti-ICE protest outside the Whipple Federal Building Saturday in Minneapolis.  Deputies say three arrests are tied to an alleged assault on a journalist while a fourth involves accusations of forcibly obstructing a deputy.  Authorities believe the journalist incident may be connected to video showing Savannah Hernandez, a contributor to right-leaning Turning Point U-S-A, being pushed and tackled during the demonstration.

 

>>Enhanced Risk of Severe Thunderstorms in Minnesota Monday Afternoon, Evening

(Chanhassen, MN) — There is an enhanced risk of severe weather later today (Mon) in parts of the state.  National Weather Service Meteorologist Joe Strus says everyone across the southern half of Minnesota should be on alert.  The biggest threat of the most intense thunderstorms is likely from the Twin Cities south towards Interstate 90.    Strus says there is a possibility of hail, damaging winds, tornadoes, and localized flooding with this system.

 

>>Iron Range Boy in ICU After Rescuing his Brother From Icy Creek

(Undated) — A five-year-old boy from Minnesota’s Iron Range is in intensive care after rescuing his younger brother from an icy creek on Easter Sunday.   Family members say Ashkan Thibodeaux jumped into the water without hesitation when his brother, Wyatt, slipped beneath the surface.  Ashkan was able to get Wyatt safely to shore but was unable to pull himself out.  He was rushed to Children’s Minnesota in Minneapolis, where he remains in pediatric I-C-U care.  Support is pouring in for the family, including a GoFundMe and a fundraiser organized by Ashkan’s hockey team, the Greenway Mini Mites, which is selling T-shirts to help ease medical and family expenses.

 

>>Search Underway for Missing Man in St. Louis County

(Orr,  MN) — Authorities are asking for the public’s help finding a missing man last seen near Orr in St. Louis County. Deputies responded Saturday afternoon to a report of an unwanted person and that individual was identified as 40-year-old Clayton Leroy Nukala Junior.  He ran into the woods naked before deputies arrived and could not be found.  Officers were called back Sunday morning after Nukala was again reported in the area, acting unusually.  Authorities say he was wearing a white bathrobe and walking toward the woods.  Officials are still searching the area, stressing hypothermia as a concern due to cool and wet weather conditions.   Nukala is not wanted for any criminal charges, and the focus is on ensuring his safety.

 

>>Former Arden Hills Daycare Employee Facing Charges After Hitting a Child

(Arden Hills, MN) — A former Arden Hills daycare employee is facing charges for allegedly hitting a three-year-old in the face, leaving the child with a bloody nose.  Thirty-five-year-old Ruby Kolbow was charged with malicious punishment and third-degree assault of a child under four. The incident allegedly happened March 10th at New Horizon Academy, though it was reported to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office nine days later.  Kolbow initially claimed the injury was accidental, but the child’s mother said her son reported being hit by a staff member. Kolbow has since been fired and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7th.

 

>>Twins Top Blue Jays to Tie for Best Record in AL, 1st Place in Central

(Toronto, ON) — The Minnesota Twins are tied with the Cleveland Guardians for the best record in the American League and first place in the Central Division.   The Twins improved to 9-7 with an 8-2 win Sunday at Toronto.  Taj Bradley pitched five innings of one-run ball and struck out seven for the victory.  Tristan Gray hit a three-run homer, and Kody Clemens had a solo shot.  Minnesota opens a three-game series tonight (Mon 6:40pm) at Target Field against the Red Sox.

 

>>KG Gets Standing Ovation at Wolves Regular Season Finale 

(Minneapolis, MN) — Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett received a standing ovation at the Timberwolves regular season finale Sunday night against the Pelicans.  It was K-G’s first game at Target Center since November 2018.  He watched Minnesota’s young players defeat New Orleans 132-126.   Terrence Shannon led the Wolves with 26 points, and Joan Beringer had 24 points, 12 rebounds, and seven blocks.  Minnesota has the sixth seed in the Western Conference playoffs and will face the third-seed Denver Nuggets on Saturday.
