>>Morrison Asks Trump Administration to Exempt Small Businesses from Tariffs

(Deephaven, MN) — U-S Representative Kelly Morrison claims that small businesses are being hit especially hard by the Trump administration’s tariffs.  The Minnesota Democrat wrote the Treasury and Commerce secretaries asking that small businesses be exempted from these tariffs.  Morrison says the 145-percent tariff on Chinese goods are not workable and could force some small businesses in her district to close.  She serves on the House Small Business committee.  Republican Congressman Tom Emmer has said tariffs protect American manufacturers and their workers.

 

>>Minnesota Democrat McCollum Calls for Defense Secretary Hegseth to Resign

(St. Paul, MN) — Congresswoman Betty McCollum is among the growing chorus calling for the resignation of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.  The St. Paul Democrat says in a statement, “it has become clear that not only is Secretary Hegseth completely incompetent, but his actions are jeopardizing the national security of the United States.”  Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska is the first Republican to suggest President Trump should fire Hegseth.  The latest criticism of Hegseth comes after reports of another improper Signal group chat where he shared classified information about military operations with unauthorized personnel including family.  The White House denies it is looking to replace the Forest Lake native.

 

>>Earth Day Capitol Rally Calling for Lawmakers to Enforce Environmental Laws

(St. Paul, MN) — A partnership of 19 different organizations is delivering petitions to Minnesota lawmakers on Earth Day (Tues) demanding the state enforce environmental laws.  Sierra Club North Star chapter deputy director Mary Blitzer says certain laws aren’t being followed and they are calling on legislators to investigate the issues and hold hearings.  The groups will be delivering 1,000 petitions in total.  Blitzer says they’ll be pulling Senate leaders off the floor Tuesday after pulling House leaders Monday.

 

>>Gustavus Adolphus Dedicating new Solar Field on Earth Day

(St. Peter, MN) — Gustavus Adolphus College is hosting an Earth Day dedication and ribbon cutting today (Tues 11:30am) for its new Arbor View solar field.  Officials say the one-point-one megawatt solar array is latest renewable energy source on campus and will also serve as a research hub for students and faculty.  The public is invited to the ceremony in St. Peter.

 

>>Winner of First Ship Contest in Duluth Comes Within 38 Seconds of Arrival

(Duluth, MN) — The winner of this year’s First Ship contest in Duluth must have a crystal ball.  Jason Hron of the Duluth Seaway Port Authority says it was one of the best guesses ever.  He says a woman named Christy guessed within 38 seconds of the actual arrival time.  The Federal Nagara passed under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge at 6:05 am and 22 seconds Monday and she guessed 6:06 am.  Christy wins a Duluth-themed prize package worth about a thousand dollars that includes a hotel stay in Canal Park.  The Federal Nagara was carrying machinery from Germany for a sugar mill in the Red River Valley.

 

>>Washington County Kidnapping Suspect at Large

(Stillwater, MN) — Law enforcement is searching for a suspect in a Washington County kidnapping trial who failed to show up for closing arguments on Monday.  Officials issued an arrest warrant for David Powers, who’s accused of holding his then-girlfriend hostage in her Lake Elmo home and raping and assaulting her.  Chandra McFarland says she was in a relationship with Powers for months before he “snapped” in May 2023.  Deputies say Powers has a history of violent domestic crime.

 

>>Lake Crystal Man Dies in Blue Earth County Rollover Crash

(Blue Earth County, MN) — A Lake Crystal man is dead after a rollover crash in Blue Earth County this weekend.  Deputies responded early Sunday morning to the crash just north of Good Thunder.  Investigators say 21-year-old Jacob Farrell was driving a pickup north before rolling into a field.  He was ejected from his seat and trapped under the vehicle’s roof.  Farrell died at the scene.

 

>>13-Year-Old Driver Crashes into Robbinsdale Home

(Robbinsdale, MN) — Police in Robbinsdale are investigating a vehicle that crashed into a home with a 13-year-old boy behind the wheel.  Officers found the front third of a truck buried into a home around 6 pm Monday while a man and a woman were inside.  The woman was uninjured, and the man went to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.  The adult female passenger said she let the boy drive them around the neighborhood and home from the store.  The teen apparently mistook the gas pedal for the brake and crashed the truck into the home.

 

>>Man Who Vandalized Tesla Cars Won’t Face Criminal Charges

(Minneapolis, MN) — The man accused of vandalizing at least six Tesla cars in Minneapolis, causing an estimated $20,000 in damage, won’t face criminal charges.  The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office says the charges are still on the table if the vandalism continues but would rather find a “pre-charge diversion” for the suspect, 33-year-old Dylan Adams.  The Minneapolis Police Department says it has done its job, and any complaints about the punishment can be taken up with prosecutors.

 

>>Playoff Road Games for Minnesota Timberwolves and Wild Tuesday Night

(Los Angeles, CA) — The playoffs continue for the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Wild tonight (Tues) with road games out west.  The Wolves face the Lakers in Game 2 of the N-B-A playoffs at Crypto.com Arena at 9 pm.  Minnesota won the opener 117-95 on Saturday night in L-A.  The Wild and Golden Knights face off in Game 2 of the N-H-L postseason at 10 pm at T-Mobile Arena.  Vegas beat Minnesota 4-2 in Game 1 Sunday night.  Both series move to Minnesota for Game 3 later this week.
