>>Governor Walz Writing Book on Minnesota’s Pushback to Operation Metro Surge

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is writing a book on Minnesota’s resistance to Operation Metro Surge. Publisher W. W. Norton and Company announced on Wednesday, “Good Neighbors,” by Tim Walz. The book will be published next year after the governor leaves office. Walz said on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” Wednesday night, “The people of Minnesota showed courage, stood up, pushed back.”

 

>>Senate Considers Bill Renaming Highway in Honor of Zumbrota Officer/Firefighter

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Senate considers a bill today (Thurs) to rename a stretch of Highway 58 in southeastern Minnesota after a fallen Zumbrota police officer/firefighter. The House passed the measure Monday naming it the Officer/Firefighter Gary L. Schroeder Memorial Highway. Schroeder in died in April 2023 from a line of duty death related to P-T-S-D and suicide.

 

>>Minnesota Senate Passes Veterans Bill

(St. Paul, MN) — The Minnesota Senate passed a Veterans Policy and Budget bill. By approving the measure, the legislature addresses expanding burial eligibility at veterans cemeteries to include members of the Minnesota National Guard, and formally recognizes Secret War veterans who served in Laos alongside U-S forces. Those veterans have been known as the Special Guerilla Unit and they will now receive many of the same benefits as other Minnesota veterans. The bill now heads to the Minnesota House.

 

>>Senate Democrats to Speak Out on ICE Detainment of Minnesota Woman

(St. Paul, MN) — Two Senate Democrats will speak out in support of a woman this morning (Thurs 10am) who was detained by federal immigration agents in Minnesota in February. Senator Lindsey Port of Burnsville says Andrea Pedro-Francisco has been held in D-H-S facilities in El Paso, Texas for more than two months without appropriate medical treatment for a large ovarian cyst which is causing extreme pain and bleeding. Port says this is threatening Pedro-Francisco’s life. The lawmakers are seeking Humanitarian Parole so she can get the medical care she needs. Senator Alice (UH-leese) Mann of Edina, who is also an emergency room physician, will also attend today’s news conference.

 

>>Three People Arrested in Fatal Edina Shooting

(Edina, MN) — Three people are under arrest following a deadly shooting Wednesday afternoon in Edina. Police say one person was killed just after 12:30. Officers shut down the area, placing nearby businesses, including Southdale Hospital, on lockdown while suspects were sought. SWAT teams searched an affordable transitional housing apartment complex in the area. Investigators say the suspects initially ran but were all taken into custody by late afternoon. Anyone with surveillance video is asked to contact Edina police.

 

>>High TempWarms to 97 Degrees in Southwest Minnesota on Earth Day

(Chanhassen, MN) — Forecasters say Earth Day was a hot one in Minnesota. The National Weather Service reported high-temperatures of 97 degrees in Olivia, 94 in Granite Falls, and 93 degrees in Henderson on Wednesday afternoon. Mankato, Willmar, Marshall, and Alexandria topped out at 90 degrees. The southwest metro and St. Cloud reported highs of 90. The mercury reached in Minneapolis, Buffalo, and Fergus Falls. Normal highs for this time in April are in the 50s and 60s.

 

>>Mosquito Season Arrives in Minnesota

(St. Paul, MN) — Another sure sign spring has arrived in Minnesota, mosquitoes. Experts say the first mosquitoes showing up are mostly a nuisance. Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District says some species survive the winter as adults and are the first to appear once temperatures warm up. Other mosquitoes are still developing in standing water and could emerge over the next couple of weeks—possibly sooner if warm weather continues. Carlson says the mosquitoes carrying disease typically appear later in the season. In the meantime, aerial mosquito treatments have already begun across parts of the state to help keep numbers down.

 

>>Stillwater is Hosting This Year’s Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener

(St. Paul, MN) — The 78th Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener is coming up May 8th and 9th in Stillwater. Chris Morgan of Explore Minnesota says anglers will be fishing the St. Croix River this year. He says, “it’s going to be really fun, and river fishing itself is a little bit different than lake fishing.” Morgan says there are many things to do in Stillwater, from fishing to the shopping to the dining. There is a community celebration in downtown Stillwater Friday night, and Governor Tim Walz will speak Saturday morning before anglers hit the water.

 

>>Minnesota Wild Fall to Dallas Stars in Double Overtime in Game Three of Playoffs

(St. Paul, MN) — The Dallas Stars outlasted the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in double overtime last night in Game Three of the N-H-L playoffs. Wyatt Johnston netted the game-winning goal to give the Stars a 2-1 series advantage. Minnesota had a 3-2 lead in the third period before Dallas tied it up. Marcus Johansson, Joel Eriksson Ek, and Michael McCarron scored for the Wild, and Jesper Wallstedt made 32 saves to take the loss. Game 4 is Saturday afternoon at Grand Casino Arena.

 

>>Minnesota Vikings Pick #18 Overall in NFL Draft

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Minnesota Vikings have one pick in the first-round of the 2026 N-F-L Draft tonight (Thurs 7pm) in Pittsburgh. Many N-F-L analysts have the Purple selecting Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman at number 18 overall. The Vikes currently hold nine total picks in the three-day draft. Rounds two and three are Friday and the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. Coach Kevin O’Connell says interim general manager Rob Brzezinski (bruh-ZIN’-skee) has done a nice job of finalizing things and building consensus among staff, scouts and coaches.

 

>>Free Victory+ Service Will Stream 29 Lynx Games This Season

(Minneapolis, MN) — W-N-B-A Fans will be able to watch several Minnesota Lynx games for free this season. Twenty-six regular-season contests and three exhibition games will stream at no cost on the Victory+ app. The move comes after FanDuel Sports Network, the previous broadcaster for both the Lynx and Timberwolves, announced plans to cease operations at the conclusion of the N-B-A and N-H-L seasons. There is no word yet on who will handle play-by-play or analyst duties for this year’s broadcasts. The Victory+ app is available on mobile devices and smart T-Vs.
