(Washington, DC) — Federal officials continue to investigate Saturday’s night shooting incident outside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D-C. At least two Minnesotans were in attendance,Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Republican Congressman Tom Emmer. Authorities say the situation involved reports of a shooting in the hotel of the event, prompting a rapid law enforcement response and heightened security. Neither Frey nor Emmer were injured. It remains unclear how many other Minnesotans, including journalists and guests, attended the dinner.

 

>>Brooklyn Park Plane Crash Kills North Dakota Lawmaker and Pilot

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — Federal investigators are working to determine what caused a small plane to crash shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport on Saturday, killing a North Dakota lawmaker and the pilot. Authorities say Representative Liz Conmy of Fargo was among those killed when the aircraft went down in a park in Brooklyn Park just moments after departure. The pilot, identified as Joseph Cass, was a retired physician from Mayo Clinic. Officials confirm that no one on the ground was injured. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are leading the investigation and moved the plane on Sunday.

 

>>Three Weeks Remain in Minnesota Legislative Session

(St. Paul, MN) — Only three weeks remain in the legislative session in Minnesota. Senate Majority Leader Erin Murphy says the priority is making sure Minnesotans can afford the basics with their struggling budgets. Murphy says, “We’re going to do our best to make sure we have a healthcare system that functions. You’ll also see funding for food support. You know what we have to do for SNAP and error rates. But also money going to food shelves, food grants and to prepare food.” Murphy says the state budget will still have to cover any shortfalls coming from federal cuts. She reports progress in the Minnesota House on a bill establishing a statewide Office of the Inspector General to combat fraud.

 

>>Jury Appreciation Week Kicks Off in Minnesota

(St. Paul, MN) — This is the first day (Mon) of Jury Appreciation Week in Minnesota. Second District Judge Veena Iyer says the state Judicial Branch does this every year to recognize the sacrifice of all our jurors. She says our jurors take time from work and their families to devote themselves to one of the most important tasks in our democracy, and most of them are not compensated for it. Judge Iyer says the jurors who are paid only get 20 dollars a day, and there’s a push at the legislature to increase the per diems. There are juror appreciation events at several Minnesota courthouses this week.

 

>>Suspect Arrested in Deadly Mankato Shooting on Sunday

(Mankato, MN)  —  Police in Mankato say a man is in custody in connection with a deadly shooting Sunday afternoon.  Officers responding to a report of shots fired found a man dead and woman injured.  She was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital in Mankato in stable condition.  Officers say the suspect was arrested without incident.  No other information is being released.

 

>>Moorhead Man Arrested for Attempted Murder with Vehicle

(Moorhead, MN) — A Moorhead man is accused of attempted murder after police say he intentionally struck someone he knew with a vehicle early Saturday morning. Officers found a man suffering from life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car. The victim was taken to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Roel Rivera. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, first- and second-degree felony assault, and leaving the scene of a crash.

 

>>Tick Season is Upon Us

(Undated) — Tick season is ramping across Minnesota as warmer weather settles in, and experts say now is the time to take precautions. Officials report ticks become active as soon as temperatures rise above freezing, with activity peaking in May and continuing into June. Alex Carlson with the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District says many people are already encountering ticks. Health experts recommend using insect repellent, staying on clear trails, and performing thorough tick checks after spending time outside. They also note that most ticks must remain attached for more than 24 hours to transmit disease, making early removal a key step in staying safe this season.

>>No Ant, No Dante for Wolves in Game 5 of Playoff Series at Denver

(Denver, CO) — The shorthanded Minnesota Timberwolves play the Nuggets in Denver tonight (Mon 9:30pm) with a chance to close out the first-round playoff series. The Wolves beat the Nuggets 112-96 Saturday at Target Center to take a 3-1 series lead, but lost guards Anthony Edwards and Donte DiVincenzo to injury. Edwards went down with a hyperextended left knee and is expected to miss at least two weeks with a bone bruise. DiVincenzo suffered a ruptured right Achilles tendon and underwent season-ending surgery Sunday in New York. Ayo Dosunmu scored a career-high 43 points off the bench for Minnesota in the Game 4 victory.
